These Animals Need Homes

By last count before the weekend, 35 cats, 18 dogs, 6 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs, 3 birds, and 1 mouse were in residence at the island’s only animal shelter awaiting new homes. Here are the details on just a few of the animals available for adoption at the Potter League. See the attached gallery for pictures and videos of these special pets.

  • Coco is a 4-year-old neutered black lab mix with a white muzzle. He likes jogging, rides in the car and practicing agility tricks. Coco would be best suited in a quiet home with no other pets, as he is a little bit anxious.
  • Fergie is a 2-year-old spayed German Shepherd/beagle mix. She needs some training but is very active, smart, curious and loves people.
  • Cricket is a 5-year-old retriever who is calm, easy going and likes riding in the car. Cricket has lived with another dog and would easily be able to do so again.
  • Remy is a 2-year-old neutered German Shepherd/chow mix that is strong and needs some training.
  • Duncan is a 3-year-old neutered black domestic shorthair mix who has a heart condition that is treated with daily medication. He is very playful and talkative and may get along with other cats. Duncan is looking for someone with a big heart to adopt him this Valentine’s month.
  • Misty is a 2-½-year old neutered brown tiger and white domestic shorthair mix.  He is very sweet and is full of love in life, but prefers to be the only cat in the house.
  • Katy is an 11-year-old spayed tortie domestic shorthair mix that is very sweet. She would do best in a quiet home, but doesn’t mind having other cats to play with. Katy has been at the shelter since June 30, 2010.
  • Destiny is a 6-year-old spayed black and white domestic shorthair mix that likes other cats and is very kind and gentle.
