Update: Hurricane Irene Cancels Air Show, Postpones Arts Festival, and More Changes

As moves closer, cancellations and postponements of weekend events have begun.

  • Organizers of the on Thursday announced that the two-day festival scheduled for Aug.27-28 has been postponed to Sept. 24-25. The annual festival features musical acts and performances to benefit , the Middletown-based non-profit organization that serves persons with disabilities throughout Newport County.
  • The Newport Bucket Regatta and Texas Flying Legends WWII Airshow scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27 and Sunday, Aug. 28 off Fort Adams and Castle Hill have been canceled.
  • In Middletown, the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge has canceled all weekend events beginning Saturday. The and will not reopen until further notice, according to the announcement on Thursday.
  • Middletown's Pay-As-You-Throw Garbage and Recycling Program will be delayed by one day this week, as if on a holiday schedule. There will be no collections on Monday.
