Relay for Life, Ponies, May Fair, Murder and Concours d'Elegance

The best events in and around Middletown to keep the family entertained this weekend.

By Monday, be prepared for the inevitable "can we get a pony?" question, as the kid-friendly equines will be out in full force throughout the weekend across the island.

Here are more highlights from the weekend ahead:

  • SILVEIRA KINDERGARTEN & NURSERY SCHOOL MAY FAIR
    Where/When:
    on Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Why Go:  Children of all ages will enjoy pony rides, a reptile show, mini golf, hay rides, a bounce house, a karate demonstration, and much more. Food and refreshments will also be available.
    Pricing: Free admission; Pay per ride.

  • Where/When:
    Gaudet School from Friday, May 20 at 6 p.m. to Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m.
    Why Go: Help support the American Cancer Society at Relay for Life in which teams of people will walk the track through the night to honor those who have been affected by cancer. There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy.

  • Where/When:
    Newport Art Museum on Saturday, May 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
    Why Go:  Join the actors of the Marley Bridges Theatre Company as they solve a murder mystery set in 1896 at the reading of the last will and testament of Richard Morris Hunt, architect of the Newport Art Museum’s Griswold House.
     Pricing: $25/adult; $13/youth ages 17 and under.

  • Where/When:
    Fort Adams State Park on Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Check out exotic cars, fashion influenced by the coachwork and design of historic vehicles, and tastings of gourmet food all set against the backdrop of Narragansett Bay.
    Pricing: $22/adult; $10/youth ages 15 and under

  • Where/When:
    St. Philomena’s School on Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Why Go: This fair has something for everyone with carnival games and rides, pony rides, food, raffles, a flea market, plant sale, and used book sale.
    Pricing: Free admission; Pay per item.
