Earth Day Edition: Bike to Work, Free Compost Material, Discounted Rain Barrels

As we get ready for Earth Day this weekend, here are some ways to help save the earth while saving money for extra cash in your pocket:

  • FREE COFFEE GROUNDS FOR COMPOST
    Deal:
    has a large bin outside their door with free coffee grounds that people can use to enrich their compost piles. Bring your own container.

  • RAIN BARRELS
    Deal:
    The Rhode Island Water Lady offers 60-gallon rain barrels made from recycled food grade plastic which can be pre-ordered this week for $85 for pick-up at the Middletown Department of Public Works on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. These rain barrels typically cost $165 delivered to your door, and can fill with as little as ¼” of rain from your gutters to be used to keep your garden growing without jacking up your water bill this spring/summer.

  • FREE GARDENING WORKSHOP
    Deal:

Free lunch will be provided followed by a natural brick making demonstration. It’s all free, but registration is required. Activities for children ages 5 and up are included.

  • RE-USABLE BAG DISCOUNT AT STOP & SHOP
    Deal:
    Bring your own bags when doing your grocery shopping at , and the store will deduct five cents for each bag you bring. Save some money while also saving the planet from plastic bags.

  • CONSIGNMENT SHOPPING
    Deal:
    You can knock “re-use” and “recycle” off the green checklist by shopping consignment stores. Not only can you find great quality products, but buying consignor designer wear is a lot cheaper.
