Jade Cricket Brings Upscale Chinese Cuisine to Thames Street

Jade Cricket brings a new ethnic flair to Newport's downtown dining scene.

Jade Cricket is shaking up Newport's culinary Scene, bringing fine Chinese Cuisine to Thames Street.

From dim sum to Chinese hot pots, Jade Cricket, located at 472 Thames St., offers diners a refreshing change from traditional Newport fare. Seafood still holds a prominent place in the menu, but this restaurant blends authentic Chinese style recipes with fresh, natural ingredients from the area.

Featuring a large deck with ample outdoor seating and super cool fire torches, this new eatery is sure to become one of lower Thames Street's trendy locations. Inside oriental decor and orchids set off a soothing vibe that adds to the Chinese dining experience.

Jade Cricket opened on June 14 and is the second Newport kitchen for owner and restauranteur Chairuch Piohetshote. He also owns Thai Cuisine just a few blocks away.

Although the menu is moderately priced, one major selling point for diners on a budget is that this place is BYOB. For a $3 cork fee patrons are welcome to bring a bottle of wine for some beer to enjoy with their meals. Jade Cricket delivers, too!

Jade Cricket is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant features a dim sum brunch on weekends from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
