Christine Filipone, owner of Look Image Salon and Spa on West Main Road has been making customers feel and look better since they opened their doors a few months ago. While she provides traditional hair, nail and facial services, Filipone also offers procedures which used to only be available at a doctor's office.
Her unique services attracts clients from all over Rhode Island.
“It’s been going well,” said Filipone about her new salon.
Although the store is young, Filipone is no stranger to the industry. She started out as a cosmetologist when she was 17, and became involved with medical cosmetology through her sister Doreen Lindgren, who owns Look Image Academy in Newport. The sisters both teach professionals medical cosmetology procedures and airbrush make-up at the school.
As a micropigmentologist, more commonly known as a tattoo artist, one procedure Filipone offers is permanent eyeliner, eyebrows and lipstick.
“A lot of people don’t understand that there are medical reasons for permanent makeup,” said Filipone.
She said elderly women may lose vision or have a muscular disease which makes it a challenge to apply makeup. Women who have lost their hair to cancer, can have eyebrows permanently painted on, she explained. The salon can also create areolas for breast cancer victims.
Another service Filipone said few people know about is Needling, also known as Facial Mesotherapy or Collagen Induction Therapy. With a coil tattoo machine, the practitioner creates a slight dermal irritation. It is claimed to be a healthy alternative to resurfacing that does not thin or create damage to the skin. The procedure is said to reduce fine lines or scars.
Other unique services the salon offers are microdermabrasions, teeth whitening, airbrush makeup, eyelash extensions and makeup artistry. The salon also offers up-dos, nails, traditional facials, haircuts and coloring.
