People’s Credit Union Hosts Strong Woman Series

The Strong Woman Series, now in its third year, is for women living in Newport County who are interested in empowerment and self-improvement.

Working with the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Newport, in Middletown recently hosted the 2011 Strong Woman Series to spread the message of empowerment and self-improvement to Newport County women, according to a company press release.

In a recent session, attendees were treated to a guest lecture by local celebrity Muriel Barclay de Tolly, a restaurateur, artist, writer of children’s books and award-winning chowder maker, the statement continued.

Barclay de Tolly spoke about her life experiences and told the audience, “You can do anything.”

The evening concluded with a fun and informative game of Financial Literacy Jeopardy put on by Courtney Hunter, the Member Relationship Manager for People’s Credit Union. 

“The Strong Woman Series is so important to the women in this community.  We are happy we can help promote financial empowerment and financial success once again,” stated Hunter.

Now in its third year, the Strong Woman Series was the brainchild of Dr. Rosalind Vaz, a Middletown resident and longtime volunteer at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, according to the press release. The program is funded by The Miss Swinburne Fund of the Rhode Island Foundation with support from People’s Credit Union, Newport Hospital, Newport Public Library and Salve Regina University.     

People’s Credit Union has locations in Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Bristol, North Kingstown and Wakefield.
