Raise Your Glass: WineFest 2011

WineFest 2011 drew nearly 11,000 tasters, eaters and self-proclaimed "foodies" to the Newport Waterfront for the celebrated event.

Thousands descended onto the Newport Yachting Center this past weekend in a celebration of food and wine as Newport WineFest 2011 dominated the weekend waterfront activity.

The festival showcased wines from across the country and across the globe, as well as specialty vodkas and rums, aged balsamics, culinary gadgets, chefs, authors and unique food products from around the world.

"Newport is a special place and we all know it is a special place, so why not hold a culinary event here," said event promoter Micheal Guinan. "We have more chefs, vendors and winemakers that want to come than we have room for."

Craig Corsetti, of in Middletown, said he hopes "to encourage awareness of local wineries" at the two-day event. "There are a lot of out-of-towners here and although this is a venue for many wineries from all over the world, we have had a very positive reception."

Bravo TV's Top Chef's Tiffani Fasion and Dave Martin, along with Mike Elder, three time undefeated winner of TLC's Ultimate Cake-Off and Kevin Cottle from the 6th season of Hell's Kitchen also made appearances and shared skills, ideas and conversation.
