It was a pleasure to see  in action Representative John G. Edwards (D-Dist. 70, Portsmouth, Tiverton), Senators Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12,Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton) and Christopher S. Ottiano (R-Dist.11, Portsmouth,Bristol) , along with other Senate and House of Representative members and  Staff, last Thursday at the State House during the Special Legislative Commission.   The purpose of the Special Legislative Commission is to Study the Funding for East Bay Bridges .   The agenda included a review of commission legislation and a presentation by the House and Senate fiscal staffs, which also included a recap of recent studies on the state of Rhode Island’s infrastructure and funding, current initiatives and economic impact considerations..   They were individually impressive,as always, but even more importantly ,  they  collectively were very powerful in sending a strong message and representing Newport County's  best interest.   The purpose of the commission will be to identify the overall problems of Rhode Island Infrastructures issues and  supply a solution to the General assembly.   We owe a large debt of gratitude to our Representatives and  should support and encourage them in every way   possible.   What was obvious , was they , along with the other members of the commission are going to provide solutions to a long term systemic problem that has been solved in the past with band-aide solutions.   Not to take away from the fine job that our other local representatives are performing for our county, but, thank you to all three of you for what you are doing to protect Newport County's  best interest.   The next scheduled meeting will be the week of October 18th, I encourage our residents to please attend the session or see the broadcast if you get a chance on Capitol TV .   chris semonelli
