Middletown Fire Department, Police Department and Department of Public Works are preparing for major snow storm conditions.   As they make decisions about shelters, closures and delays, they will be added to this article.

Parking Ban

Middletown police announced that a parking ban will start at 10:00 a.m. on Friday Feb. 8 and will end at noon on Monday, Feb. 11.

Vehicles left parked on the street in violation of the snow ban may be cited and towed to allow the passage of plow trucks and emergency vehicles. The parking ban will remain in effect until Monday morning to allow for the removal of accumulated snow.

Residents, business owners and private snow plow operators are reminded it is a violation to deposit snow into any state or town road. Depositing snow into the roadway contributes to hazardous driving conditions for motorists.School

School Closures

Schools will be added as they are announced.

• All Saints Academy will be closed on Friday
• Middletown Public Schools will be closed on Friday
• The MET Schools will be closed on Friday

Other Cancellations

• The Potter League has rescheduled the Have a Heart Fundraiser for next Tuesday.
• The Potter League will be closed on Saturday. All dog training classes have been cancelled for Saturday as well.
• Middletown Little League Walk in Registration this Saturday has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 23. 
• The Library will close at 12 noon on Friday, 2/8. Call the Library at 401-846 1573, before coming out on Saturday and Sunday as they might be closed. 

Rhode Island Public Transit Authority

In anticipation of blizzard conditions, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has suspended all service effective 12:00 p.m on Friday.  All service will be reinstated on Saturday, February 9, 2013 as soon as conditions are safe for RIPTA vehicles to travel.  RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes before and after the blizzard due to winter storm conditions. RIPTA will announce once a decision has been made to reinstate all service.

Residents Responsible for Snow and Ice Removal in Middletown

The Town of Middletown reminds all property owners, both residents and businesses, of their responsibility to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property.  Do not deposit snow onto any street or public place.

Trash and Recycling Pick Up

Trash pick-up will begin one hour earlier on Friday in advance of the storm. 

How to Prepare

The Middletown Emergency Management Team urge residents to prepare for the anticipated blizzard as if they will be stuck at home for three days. Officials report Middletown has not experienced a winter storm of this potential magnitude in a long time.  To read how to prepare, click here.
