Middletown Teacher Has Rented a Room 'Many Times' Said Motel Staff

Patrick Aylward, a teacher at Middletown High School, is under investigation for a potentially inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old Middletown girl. Staff at an area motel said he has rented a room many times.

The 39-year-old Middletown High School teacher who allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old female student he is accused of having a relationship with at the Founder's Brook Motel, has rented a room at the same Portsmouth motel many times since last fall, said an employee of the motel.

Patrick Aylward, of Fall River, has been placed on paid leave while Middletown police and school officials investigate the situation. The employee of Founder's Brook Motel, who wished to remain anonymous, said Alyward has rented a room many times, paid cash and said the room was for two people. Alyward always came into the front office alone, said the employee.

According to Portsmouth Police, Alyward got into an argument with the girl at the motel on Feb. 16 and allegedly headbutted her in the parking lot. Police said the girl had visible swelling on her forehead. He was charged with domestic assault.

The girl told police Alyward was occasionally violent with her, and had punched her in the stomach and threw a vase at her.
