Search for Bone Marrow Match to Save Pre-K Student, Town Council Meets and More

A look at what's happening in and around Middletown today.

Here's a look at what's happening in Middletown today:

  1. A bone marrow registration drive will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Aquidneck Elementary School for a 5-year-old Pre-K student who needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. The procedure involves a simple cheek swab. See the flyer at right in the image gallery for more information.
  2. The Middletown Town Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on proposed Town Charter changes pertaining to collective bargaining. The proposed changes can be viewed in the image gallery at upper right.
  3. The Town Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight. Agenda items include: a proposed change to a town ordinance related to the town's hiring of a coyote hunter; Town Administrator Shawn Brown’s proposed budget for 2011-2012; proposed changes to the Town Charter; the town’s upcoming application for Community Development Block Grants, and more. Town Administrator Shawn Brown has requested a continuance to a later meeting to discuss items related to the firefighters' division restructuring and related shift changes.   4. Got a case of the Mondays? Affordable, gentle yoga classes take place at 6 p.m. every Monday at the Norman Bird Sanctuary.
  5. Zumba Latin dance classes are held at 6 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday night at the Middletown Senior Center and are open to all ages.
