Today: Town Council to Address Fire Department Changes, Regionalization Referendum and More

A look at what's happening in and around Middletown.

Happy first day of spring! Here's a look at how the week is starting out in Middletown:

  1. On Monday night, the Middletown Town Council is scheduled to meet for its regularly scheduled session. Among the topics of discussion are the firefighters' shifts, hours  and contract terms, regionalization, changing local laws related to hunting as they pertain to the ongoing coyote problem and an update from Town Administrator Shawn Brown on his initial discussions with Portsmouth regarding the possible sharing of Pay-As-You-Throw trash and recycling services. The complete agenda is available to view or print at right, along with some key memos and proposed actions items from some of those discussions.
  2. Today marks the first day of spring, but you would not know it by the weather. The National Weather Service calls for a mix of snow and rain today in Middletown with a high of 41 degrees before turning to rain by 10 p.m later tonight. Little or no accumulation is expected.
  3. Do you know a Whiz Kid who deserves some recognition? Nominate a whiz kid today by emailing Patch at angelal@patch.com and check back Tuesday to find out who our pick is for this week's Whiz Kid.
  4. The Middletown Senior Center gets transformed into a virtual bowling alley this morning as the seniors take part in Wii bowling.
  5. Free tax help from the AARP is available at the Middletown Public Library at 3:30 p.m. on Mondays throughout tax season.
