Tuesday: Tree Walks and Dog Care Open House

A look at what's happening in and around Middletown today.

1. Gaudet Middle School students are gearing up for high school! Eighth graders will be shadowing Middletown High students today.

2. Newport Arboretum Week continues today. The Preservation Society is sponsoring a guided tree walk on the grounds of Chateau-sur-Mer at 11 a.m. There will also be a tree walk at Aquidneck Park at 6 p.m., followed by a sreening of the award-winning documentary, Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Mathai at the  at 7 p.m.

3. Today in high school sports: the varsity boys' outdoor track team races against East Providence, the varsity boys' baseball team plays Cranston East, the varsity boys' tennis team competes against Narragansett, the varsity fastpitch softball team takes on North Providence and the varsity boys' lacrosse team plays Cumberland.

4. The Potter League will be holding a for dog care professionals who want to learn more about the Potter League’s dog training programs today at 6 p.m. This forum is geared toward pet sitters, dog walkers, veterinary technicians, groomers, veterinarians, boarding kennels and anyone who works directly with dogs. 

5. Expect sun and temperatures in the mid-50s today, according to the National Weather Service.
