Newport County Community Mental Health Center, Inc. (NCCMHC) will sponsor its 5th Annual Tour de Newport Bike-a-thon Sunday, September 22nd at 9 a.m. to generate support for its Children's Intensive Services (CIS) program. CIS serves children ages 2-18, many of whom have experienced overwhelming trauma and suffer from emotional and behavioral difficulties, while providing therapeutic, clinical programs to children who are at risk for costly hospitalizations and academic failure.

Children are given the opportunity to receive care and treatment which enables them to develop coping and relationship skills needed to thrive in the everyday world.

NCCMHC’s goal in sponsoring this family-centered, health-focused event is threefold: 1) To raise awareness about the beneficial treatment options that NCCMHC currently provides; 2) To do our part in the effort to erase the stigma associated with mental illness through advocacy and education; and 3) To raise funds in support of CIS programs.

Last year's Bike-a-thon boasted over 160 riders, from over 7 states as far west as Minnesota!

Free t-shirts will be given to all registrants and a raffle with over $1,600 in prizes will be held the day of the event!

Donations can be made online at www.active.com/donate/nccmhc2013.

For additional information about the event or the services NCCMHC provides visit: www.nccmhc.org, or call 401-846-1213.

The Route: The ride, which is dedicated to the memory of Sgt. Michael F. Paranzino, will start and finish at Rogers High School and features 10, 25, and 45-mile routes which wind along the Aquidneck Island coastline including sights such as Fort Adams, Hammersmith Farm, First and Second Beaches, the Mt. Hope Bridge and the mansions along Bellevue Avenue. For those wishing to watch the event and offer their support to riders and this beneficial cause, spectators are welcome at the start/finish of the ride at Rogers High School.
