Community Corner

The Festival of Arts at WinterFest

A local group of Artisans has created a co-op in order to bring an all-inclusive day of shopping and fun to Newport.  Being held in the Atrium of the Newport Marriott on Saturday February 15, 2014 this event is for all ages.  Hours are 10 am until 5 pm.

Following in Rhode Island’s example to promote locally handcrafted treasures a group of Artisans were inspired to create their own show.  Perfectly timed with the 26th Annual Newport Winter Festival the day will not only feature handmade creations but will also include live music throughout the day!  The musical talents of Julio Amaro who plays a beautiful Latin guitar will be the daylong headliner.  The acappella Alley Cats – a group of four women – will play as of 3 pm to charm the crowds.

To further include the community there will a troop of Girl Scouts all day selling their famous cookies!  Stop by to stock up!

Face painting, generously donated by The Bailey Art Gallery, will be from 10 am till 5 pm.  The painting will be free with a Winter Festival button.  Due to its popular demand please stop by early to reserve your spot.  Only 15 people will be allowed to be in line at a time for a spot so reservations are a must!

Since the organizers are all volunteers all profits for the show will be donated to The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Community Center of Newport.  The funds will be specifically designated for Child Literacy Programs.

Parking at the Marriott is a $10 fee for the day so it is highly recommended that the Visitor Center Parking lot be used, which is currently a no charge lot.  Handicapped parking is available at both locations.
