James L. Maher Center's 35th Annual Golf Tournament

On Friday, July 26th, the James L. Maher Center held its 35th Annual Golf Tournament at Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth.  Even though the weather started off poorly, the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the golfers who participated. The community outpouring this year rivaled last year’s, and for that we are truly grateful.
We would like to publicly thank the many employees, volunteers, donors, golfers and especially our sponsors, DEG Associates, Newport Prescription Center, Citizens Bank – Private Wealth, Partridge, Snow & Hahn LLP, Carey, Richmond & Viking, KVH Industries, Roland Florenz, Shamrock Electric, Inc., Access Point RI, Amica Mutual Insurance Company, Balfour Beatty, Blum Shapiro, David & Leslie Reed, Newport Grand, Newport Restaurant Group, Phil’s Propane, Quick Fab, Inc., SAIC, TJ Russell Supply, Bridges, Inc., Aquidneck Waste Consultants, BankNewport, Behan Bros, Belmont Fruit, Inc, Cappy’s Hillside Café, Chris Electric, Ltd., Coastal Property Management, Corrigan Financial, Inc., Custom Plumbing & Heating Co., Frosty Freez, G & S Tree Farms, Lift & Care System, Inc., Moore, Virgadamo & Lynch, Newport Fed, Newport Hardware, Newport/Middletown Knights of Columbus Council #256, O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, Inc., Parvo’s Paint & Wallpaper Center, Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, SHS Pest Control, Toppa Foodservice & Paper Supply and RB Queern & Co, Inc. for their support. Without them, we might not be able to provide the programs and services we have been providing to our friends with developmental disabilities for the last 60 years. It is truly a tribute to their generosity.

The James L. Maher Center is a sixty-year-old, Newport-based not-for-profit dedicated to providing various daily services to nearly 300 individuals with developmental disabilities. Some of these individuals participate in work programs; over 100 receive residential services; almost 90 children benefit from early intervention and literally thousands of people in the East Bay area reach their destinations because of RIde transportation services provided under the terms of a contract with the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.
