Judith (Medeiros) Fitzgerald, a Portsmouth resident recently published a book journaling her battle with breast cancer. Judith retired from Saint Philomena School in June 2008 where she enjoyed serving as a 5th grade teacher and was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2008. Her book…A Teacher’s Journey…What Breast Taught Me, received recognition as a finalist in the 2012 International Book Awards Competition.
Judith will be at Island Books 575 East Main Road, Middletown, RI o A Teacher’s Journey is a faith-filled account of Fitzgerald’s year-long battle with breast cancer. All proceeds from A Teacher’s Journey are dedicated help fund the Pink Vaccine, the First Preventive Breast Cancer Vaccine which is seeking funding to begin clinical trials with humans. The vaccine was developed by Dr. Vincent Tuohy at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic and has shown 100% effectiveness in preventing breast cancer in lab models. The only obstacle to beginning clinical trials is lack of funding.
Judy has joined with three other breast cancer survivors and one world renowned breast cancer surgeon, Dr. Kathleen Ruddy to form Champions of the Pink Vaccine. It’s the first time several breast cancer foundations have joined forces to promote a cause. They have a petition before Congress which can be signed on the Pink Vaccine website. More information and a video explaining how the vaccine works may be found at www.sisters4prevention.com and ww.thepinkvaccine.com. You can contact Judy at sisters4prevention@yahoo.com.
