Friday: 5 Fun Things to do This Weekend

A look at what's happening in and around Middletown this weekend.

  1. Anyone interested in supporting pension reform is invited to the on Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. to join EngageRI for a . Free appetizers will be served.
  2. The will hold its 4th annual on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Glen Park with all proceeds going to extend the Sakonnet Greenway Trail. Leashed dogs and strollers are welcome to participate in the walking category.
  3. Stroller Strides of Newport and Dr. James Cavanaugh of Portsmouth Family Dental are hosting a at the Newport Public Library on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. The candy will support Operation Gratitude and will be sent in care packages to the troops overseas. Children are encouraged to bring their excess Halloween candy and will receive a prize in return.
  4. NewportFILM will hold a on Friday and Saturday at the Jane Pickens Theatre. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. prior to the Friday screening of "Undefeated" and the Saturday screening of "Being Elmo" (not for young children). The kids’ film, "Snowmen" will be screened on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children, and $20 for the reception and film combination.
  5. Newport Restaurant Week kicks off tonight at more than 50 restaurants throughout Newport and Bristol County. The event features 3-course prix fixed lunches for $16 and dinners for $30. A complete list of participating restaurants can be found at www.gonewportrestaurantweek.com.
