Monday: PAYT Renewals Due and YMCA Fall Session Starts

A looks at what's happening in and around Middletown today.

  1. Pay As You Throw renewal fees of $150 are due today in order to not have an interruption of service. The fee covers service from Nov. 1, 2011, through Oct. 31, 2012. For more information and renewal forms, go to www.middletownri.com.
  2. Today is the first day of the fall session of activities such as swimming and gymnastics at the YMCA, so sign up before you miss this week’s class. The schedule can be found at www.newportymca.org.
  3. Bike Newport will host a Halloween bike ride departing from Washington Square at 5 p.m. on a 4.5-mile route. Participants are encouraged to wear their costumes (including helmets), and hot cider and treats will be served at the end of the ride.
  4. Trick or treat at Bellevue Avenue, William Street and Mill Street stores that are displaying black and orange balloons from 3 to 5 p.m. today.
  5. The Washington Square Roots Initiative will host a free in Washington Square from 5 to 7 p.m., including a costume parade, trick or treating at area businesses, and a screening of "Caspar" at the Jane Pickens Theatre at 5:30 p.m.
