Re-broadcast of State of the State Program on Sakonnet Bridge Tolls

Information on State of the State broadcast on program on Sakonnet Bridge tolls

I wanted to let you know that John Carlevale from State of the State will be re-broadcasting the panel show discussing tolls on the Sakonnet Bridge. Dates and times are below.

Here is a great question that appeared in one of the blogs on this subject. "Do you believe that it is fair, moral, and legal to transfer bridge and road funding from the East Bay to the remainder of the state, when the money is derived from the RI gas tax, the RI income and sales tax, other RI taxes and fees, and from the Federal give back of federal taxes to RI for bridges and roads?  Wouldn’t that be the same as using the toll money to supplement the entire RI DOT budget for the entire State of RI, at the expense of the East Bay? "

No matter what part of RI you live in, I would hope that you would speak against this inequitable toll. We must all stand together. This is just the beginning of a very agressive agenda to add more taxes to Rhode Island citizens.

Program Two: 9-13-2012 Sakonnet Bridge Toll

Guests: Rob Coulter; Marina Peterson                 Guest/Host: Larry Fitzmorris        Produced: September 13, 2012       Run time: 30 minutes

The Rhode Island General Assembly has decided to place a toll on the Sakonnet Bridge. Users of the bridge are predictably unhappy with this prospect as they find the user fee will be burdensome and excessive, not only to residents but also to non-residents and businesses providing services to residents and to the general flow of commerce to and from and across the island community. In researching this question, the guests have discovered some other matters, which underscore their concern and protest. PUBLIC HEARINGS HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED.

Please attend one of these meetings... YOU can affect the outcome! PORTSMOUTH — State officials will visit these towns twice next week to hear testimony regarding the impact of tolls on the East Bay area. The hearings were scheduled after many protested that the toll plan was included in the state budget before any economic impact study had been conducted. The first meeting is at Portsmouth High School Auditorium on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. The second meeting is at Tiverton High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. Officials from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Auhority, and other agencies will be present to hear public testimony about the proposed toll on the Sakonnet River Bridge. The Portsmouth Business Association this week asked "concerned citizens, residents, taxpayers, commuters, tourists, business owners and all people affected by the toll to attend the meeting to tell officials the effect of the toll on your situation and on your business."
