Enjoy a day of ballet fun for the dancers and story lovers in your family on Monday, January 21st at either 1 PM or 2 PM when dancers from the Island Moving Company Jr. take center stage for two shows at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Middletown Village in Middletown. David Ira Rottenberg reads his new picture book, Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig, while the dancers perform a mime/dance of the story and later present a mini-dance lesson. Mr. Rottenberg will sign copies of his book. The event is free. Bring your cameras!

Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig tells the tale of two friends, Gwendolyn and Omar, who have big dreams. Gwendolyn longs to dance ballet, and Omar wants to join the football team. There is just one problem— they’re both pigs! This presentation is an excellent opportunity for parents to introduce their children to the world of ballet, as well as have them meet real ballerinas and a children story author.

The picture book author, David Ira Rottenberg, is touring bookstores through the East Coast and collaborating with ballet schools and companies wherever he goes. Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen sees the event as an opportunity to join forces with artists in another genre to excite a love of dance and reading in young people.

Barnes & Noble is hosting the event and donating to the Island Moving Company a percentage of every sale on the day of the event made by customers with special Book Fair vouchers, or who simply identify themselves as supporters of the Island Moving Company.  Purchases made on-line will also support the school. Vouchers will be available from the Island Moving Company (401-847-4470) and at the front desk of the store on the day of the event.
