Obituary: Adelle B. Taylor, Former Pineapple Post Publisher

Adelle B. Taylor of Middletown, former publisher of The Pineapple Post, died Saturday at Newport Hospital of end stage renal disease

Born August 28, 1925 in San Angelo, TX, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Jeanette Floyd Baker. She attended school in Fort Worth and graduated from Texas Women's University in 1946 and moved to Hartford, CT to work for RCA in advertising and sales.

She was the wife of the late Gerald M. Taylor, a long-time radio broadcaster and photographer, whom she married in 1947. In 1964, Mrs. Taylor began a weekly advertising column, Window Shopping with Adelle Taylor, in which she described in unique detail the wares offered by Newport merchants. In 1972, Mrs. Taylor launched from her dining room table one of the first visitor guides, The Pineapple Post, which, with its signature pale yellow pages and black calligraphy, became a staple on the counters of hotels, shops and restaurants for three decades. She sold the publication in 2001 and retired.

Mrs. Taylor was a PTA president at the former Sheffield School for many years, chaired multiple citywide campaigns for the American Heart Association and was a long-time member of the Mosaic Club and Redwood Library.

For the past 11 years, she traveled to Tiverton three times a week for dialysis treatments after being diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. She proved a resilient and remarkable patient, managing end stage renal disease with few complications and enjoying a life full of family and friends.

Mrs. Taylor leaves her daughter, Holly Taylor and her husband, Richard Lamb, of Williamstown, MA; two sons, Jerry Taylor of Middletown and Mark Taylor and his wife, Juanita Hall, of Newtown, CT; and a daughter-in-law, Natalie Taylor of Bristol. She was the grandmother of Kimberly Hirschfeld, Ryan Taylor, David Lamb, Katherine Lamb, William Lamb, Johnathan Taylor and Nyasha Taylor and great grandmother of Spencer Lamb, Emerson Lamb and Taylor Hirschfeld.

She was the mother of the late Christopher Taylor and Michael Taylor and the sister of the late Doris Zeigler.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 9:00am in St. Joseph’s Church, on Broadway in Newport, RI. Burial will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

Donations in her memory may be made to Newport Hospital or the RI PBS Foundation, 50 Park Lane, Providence, RI 02907.
