Obituary: Karen (Smith) McDonald Baty, 67

Karen (Smith) McDonald Baty, 67, of Middletown, RI, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at home.

Born in Bath, ME on April 6, 1946, she was the daughter of Pat Smith Wyres of Portsmouth, RI and the late Graydon M. Smith.

Karen worked as an administrator for Special Needs. Karen was a member of Ember Church at the Ramada Inn in Middletown. She loved NASCAR, particularly Jimmy Johnson. She also loved to follow Jimmey “Pepe” Silvia of Middletown who drove the 116 Car at the Seekonk Speedway. She loved all dogs, but was well known for her love of Boxers. Karen enjoyed visiting Popham beach in Maine, but loved nothing more than her family and friends and the time spent with them.

Besides her mother she is survived by her sons Shawn McDonald and his wife Colleen Carpender-McDonald of Portsmouth, RI, Arthur J. McDonald of Davies, FL, brother Anthony Wyres and his wife Beth of Coco Beach, FL, sisters Traci Plummer and her husband Carroll of Georgetown, ME, Leslie Rowe of Nashua, NH, and Diana Burgess and her husband Jamie of Middletown, RI, five grandchildren, Joshua McDonald, Cody McDonald, Gavin Carpender, Trace McDonald and Braydon McDonald. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
