Obituary: Kendra L. Bowers, 19

Fearless, sassy Kendra Lindsay Bowers, 19, died on Saturday, February 1, 2014, skiing with her family in Vermont.

Kendra was a loving, laughing, smiling ray of sunshine to all who knew her. A 2012 graduate of St. George’s School, Kendra was influential in changing tradition to create the first ever Senior Prom. She was a vocal and devout environmentalist with a strong and mature sense of herself and her place in her devoted family, her community, and the world.

Singer, baker, gourmand, with a limitless love of life, known by her family as “the green police,” Kendra was an environmental studies major at University of Vermont. There, she sang with Zest, the a cappella group, giving and receiving tremendous joy through her music.

She is survived by her sisters, Katiana and Kayla, her parents, Michael and Kathy, and her grandmother Titi, her dog Rosie and her cat Marlee, and countless other family and friends.

The youngest in her extended and extremely close family, she always held her own, “fighting well above her weight class” from the moment of her birth. She was the embodiment of her favorite quote from Oscar Wilde, “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
