The Department of Health recently approved the application of a Middletown doctor to open a facility in Portsmouth.

, who owns and operates the in Middletown, passed a major hurdle this week in opening his proposed medical marijuana center or "compassion center" in Portsmouth.

Bock's application for the Greenleaf Compassionate Care Center was among the three applications chosen by the Department of Health on Tuesday for a registration certificate. Before opening for business, a compassion center must still be inspected by the Department of Health, plus obtain a certificate of occupancy from the Town of Portsmouth, as well as undergo specialty certification for staff on medical marijuana treatments.
