Andy, Did You Hear About This One.

A collection of news, opinions, ideas and insights.

On a personal note: For some reason I had a dream involving  Mr. Andy Kaufman on May 16. With a little research it is now known that that day was the day Andy passed away. For our younger generation, Mr. Kaufman is not well known, but to others of my generation and before, we remember him from the popular television shows "Taxi" and "Saturday Night Live" and a practioner of trancendental meditation

With these thoughts on my mind and how Andy died of lung cancer, I'm suggesting a cancer fundraiser in our community.

Ryan Roberts Surf Classic fundraiser happened this past weekend. Please keep it on your mind when you hear this name in the title for fundraiser events. Ryan was a great person and someone who affected me like he did to many others in a certain way. For me, it is to always stay positive and I will remember how he had that effect to make you smile genuinely.

Music: Channeling inner rock 'n roll self,  all you rock 'n rollers should go check out the Turbo AC's at Jimmy's Saloon Saturday, May 28. It's nice to see a touring band coming into town.

Movie: One actor this week. Lee Marvin in: "Cat Ballou," "The Man who shot Liberty Valence," "Emperor of the North."

Food: The best way to maintain great hair:

1. Protein: Your hair is built of protein.

2. Vitamins: Consider starting your day with a vitamin-enriched cereal or a multivitamin to make sure you’re getting all the vitamins you need.

3. Load up on dark green, leafy vegetables: Necessary for your body to produce shine-inducing oils for your hair

4. Drink your milk.

5. Nuts: Walnuts are full of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E.

Health: This weather gave me a breakdown with health. After getting the bike, the weather didn't budget, so I minded my diet and paid attention to the calorie intake this week.

Zero Waste Recycling: Over the past few weeks we have introduced a plan for Zero Waste for the Aquidneck Island. There is no single introductory text on Resource Management. But these links will get you more familiar. Come next week we will start the introduction to micro-detailing the program.

A 20-year-old overview available through the U.S. EPA is the "Decision Makers Guide to Waste Management." It is available online at: http://www.epa.gov/garbage/dmg2.htm

A feel for the integration of the system can be gained by reading the executive summary of the Single Stream Recycling Best Practices Manual and Guide, Kinsella and Gertman, 2007; which is available online at http://www.conservatree.com/learn/SolidWaste/bestpractices.shtml

Travel: Trying to plan a summer vacation? There is a place called Greenwood Lake on the New York/New Jersey line. This means you are able to go to Yankees Stadium, the family can go to Times Square, and still relax for a few days via lakeside. Sounds like fun.

Sports: Overall bragging rights between the three public high schools sports programs on the island, including both women and men, must go to the Middletown Islanders at this moment. St. George's does get the squash title.

Book: The Newport Public Library will be hosting a local poetry reading on June 21. With that said, I figured I would take a shot at it from an excerpt from my poetry book, entitled "Angle's Sometimes Say Nothing" written in the town of Kathmandu.

Mantra at Heavens Booth

Wild warrior traveling by night,
traveling by just the north star light.

Not feeling remorse for just one being,
when you comeback what shall you bring.

Art, Romance, Intellect from the sky,
being funny and still being a wise guy.

Old warrior your charisma shines bright,
always to make peace and never to fight.

Through the moonlight I hear you sing,
destination lies purely on a doves wing.

Where is your next place to wonderfully fly?
Make peace within people's heart, you shall never die.

Wild warrior wild warrior without a fright,
cherish men, women and children with pure delight.

Seeing your eyes glisten for the reason it is spring,
flowers awake and bees are trying to sting.

That would only make the babies cry,
mother kisses the wounds, and gives passionate love with her eye.

Wild warrior let the legend be told,
forever to touch everyone as you grow comfortably old.

Wild warrior the keeper of non-existence, a true reality did unfold,
when someones in despair, you are there to hold.

Epic nights, angels will cry for sentient truth.

While they shall recite the Mantra at Heavens Booth.
