Alleged Drunk Driver Arrested After Accident

The following arrest was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Newport woman was arrested Sunday after she was allegedly involved in an accident on Miantonomi Ave. and North Fenner Avenue in Middletown. No injuries were reported.

Kristin Rogers, 44, of 26 Catherine St. Apt. 2, Newport, was charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest. She was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test.

She allegedly hit another car driven by a 42-year-old man.

Police said Rogers smelled of alcohol, lost her balance while standing and slurred her words. She denied that she had been drinking after initial questioning, but later said she had two glasses of wine while watching the football game, reported police.

The officer stopped the field sobriety tests for her safety and she was instructed to place her hands behind her back, said police.

Rogers allegedly refused to comply, pulled away and screamed that she was not a criminal. Another officer came to assist, but Rogers kept fighting, said police. Police said she continued to scream in the cruiser and at the station.

A search turned up an open bottle of wine in her car, said police.
