Alleged Drunk Driver Involved in Hit and Run Accident

The following arrest was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown police arrested a 63-year-old man after he allegedly hit three other cars on Miantanomi Ave. and drove off on Wednesday, Jan. 8 around 7:45 p.m.

Police said when they caught up to Mark Watson, of 43 Library Lane, Chatham, MA in a parking lot on West Main Road, his car had severe damage, was on fire and was missing a tire.

Police were later able to follow vehicle fluids and gouge marks to the scene of the accident.

Police said Watson began to pull forward until the officer drew his gun and ordered him to stop the car. A witness put out the fire with an extinguisher, said police.

Watson reportedly told police he had a glass of wine with dinner.

At the station, Watson registered a BAC of .173 and .167, said police.  He told police that he resided at 969 West Main Road, Building 8, Apt. 3 in Middletown, in addition to his Massachusetts address.
