Alleged Ice Cream Sundae Tampering Leads to Assault

A look at the region's more interesting police reports from the past week.

Sundae Gone Wrong… Two women allegedly assaulted a McDonald’s employee in South Kingstown recently after purchasing an ice cream sundae at the drive-thru window. After buying the food, police reports said the two customers entered the store and grabbed a 20-year-old woman working at the counter, claiming that she had tampered with their sundae. The store manager and another employee successfully separated the women, and the employee suffered minor cuts and bruises. No one wanted to press charges at the time of the incident, but the women who assaulted the employee were issued trespass citations.

Texting Revenge… A 50-year-old Newport woman was arrested this week on vandalism charges after accidentally breaking a window following a dispute. The woman told police that a woman had been sending her malicious text messages, so she went over to her home to confront her. According to the reports, when the texter did not answer the banging door, the woman banged on the window, accidentally breaking the glass as a result. The other woman denied sending the texts and had no record of them on her phone.

Movies Aren’t Cheap… A 60-year-old Wakefield man was charged with shoplifting recently after — “Takers” and “Next Three Days” — out of their packaging and put them into his jacket. According to police, Champlin told police he was sorry for stealing the items, alleging he did it because the DVDs were “overpriced.” The total amount of stolen goods was valued at $53.

Energy Drained… A Portsmouth man was arrested on Thursday after he was allegedly spotted at the local supermarket. Store employees told police they observed the suspect placing something inside his bag, which was later identified as a Monster energy drink. Police arrived at the scene and questioned the 20-year-old man. Officers say they also found a food wrapper inside his pocket. He was charged with shoplifting.

Duct Tape Mischief… Barrington police received a report from a resident this week that someone had placed duct tape over the motion sensor of an outside light. Police suspect one of two situations: A nearby neighbor taped up the sensor because of the light going off and on repeatedly at night. Someone plans to break into the house and wanted to disable the light.
