Middletown Man Hit By Car Suffered Serious Head Trauma

A 65-year-old Middletown was taken to the hospital.

 

A 65-year-old Middletown man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital on Tuesday afternoon for serious injuries after he was reportedly hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Memorial Boulevard.

Police reports said the man was riding near Old Beach Road when a woman driving a silver Hyundai SUV hit him.

He was treated by paramedics for trauma to the left side of his head and left foot. Rescue crews first transported him to the emergency room to be treated for head trauma and respiratory arrest, but was later brought to Rhode Island Hospital with serious head injuries.

When police first arrived arrived around 1:15 p.m., the man was lying on the ground while a man and woman performed CPR on him. Reports said the car had a shattered windshield on the passenger side and damage to the right fender and bumper frame.

The woman, a 38-year-old from New Bedford, MA, told police she knew she did not know what happened and that she had not seen anyone. No charges have been filed.

Police spoke to two National Grid employees who were driving behind the woman when the accident happened. The driver reportedly told police he saw a figure in the air and a bicycle being tossed.
