Middletown Arrests: Man Arrested Two Times in One Night for DUI

Man Arrested Twice On DUI Charges

On Monday night, a 19 year-old Portsmouth Man was arrested two times on a Driving Under the Influence Charge within a two hour time period.

Alexander Alvarnas, of 77 Session Pond Rd., Portsmouth was first arrested around 11:06 p.m. after police spotted his vehicle driving erratically. Police reported they pulled over his car after he drove the wrong way through the CVS Pharmacy drive-thru.

Police reported a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana from his breath. Police said he failed the field sobriety tests and had a difficult time maintaining balance when on his feet. Police found four sealed bottled of alcoholic beverages in his trunk.

He was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test, presence of alcoholic beverages while operating a motor vehicle and a laned roadway violation.   A passenger was issued a summons for a Minor in Possession of Alcohol. 

At around 1:10 a.m. an officer on patrol in the area was informed that Alvarnas had been released and was walking towards CVS where his car was parked.  The officer saw a Mazda exit CVS and drive towards East Main Road at a high rate of speed.  The officer reported he was swerved across the road and stopped the vehicle.

Alvarnas reportedly told the officer he was coming from a friend’s house in Newport and was on his way home to Portsmouth.  When the officer asked if he had many any stops on his way home, Alvarnas reportedly answered no.  

Police said when they asked him a second time if he had made any stops, he said that he had thought about stopping for food, but decided to go home because he graduation rehearsal in the morning.  

The officer asked about his stop at the Police Station, and Alvarnas reportedly answered, “oh yeah, well, yeah I was there too.”

Police said he admitted that he had made a “bad decision” to drive after his release, but felt he was fine to operate a vehicle.  

During the field sobriety tests, the officer explained and demonstrated the test. Alvarnas said he had already taken the same test earlier, so he understood.

He took a preliminary breath test, and registered a .052 blood alcohol count. He was arrested and brought back into custody.  

Woman Allegedly Threatens Ex-Husband’s New Girlfriend

Sherry Ann Pare, 43, of 21 S. Lake Rd., Tiverton, was arrested on Monday night after she allegedly jumped out of a car and threatened to beat up her ex-husband’s new girlfriend.

According to police reports, the victim, a 45 year-old woman from Somerset, was in the Monroe Muffler parking lot waiting for a tow truck to drop off her vehicle, when Pare jumped out of a Blue Dodge Ram and yelled at her that she was going to beat her up.

Pare allegedly repeatedly bumped into her and threatened her.   A witness called police and reported that Pare got back into the Dodge Ram and head north on West Main Road. police stopped the vehicle, shortly after it passed into Portsmouth.

Pare told police, “She’s lucky I didn’t punch her in the face.”  She was arrested for disorderly conduct.
