Middletown Arrests: Man Charged With DUI After Accident, Drugs, Vandalism and Assault

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

DUI Arrests

Mark Godfrey, 46, of 9 Haven St., Milford, Mass. was arrested on Sunday around 5:55 p.m. on a DUI charge after he was repordely involved in an accident on the intersection of Aquidneck Avenue and East Main Road. 

He said he accidentally rear ended the vehicle in front of him, said police.  The driver of the other vehicle reportedly told police Godfrey was “hammered” and confrontational.

Godfrey allegedly told police he had consumed six beers at the Atlantic Beach Club earlier that day.   Godrey was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test.


Nelson Escudero Sanchez, 18, of 41 West Evans St., Newport was arrested on Monday morning at approximately 3:17 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence.  Police said Sanchez did not stop when they activated the emergency lights near Taco Bell on West Main Road to pull him over for a missing brake light. Police then activated the siren, but Sanchez reportedly continued driving and made a right turn onto Maple Avenue.  His car eventually came to a stop at the intersection of King Road, said police. 

Sanchez reportedly said he was coming from a relative's house in Providence and was on his way home.  Police said he smelled of alcohol, and his speech was “thick tongued.”

Police said during the field sobriety tests, Sanchez lost his balance and almost fell over.  Sanchez was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and for brake equipment. 

Man Vandalizes Wrong Car After Fight

Charles Bouchard, 26, of 566 Stevens St. was arrested on Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. after he allegedly punched a side view mirror off a Toyota Minivan at the Atlantic Beach Club.  Witnesses said he fled the scene in a blue Hyundai Accent.  Police found the car matching the description on East Main Rd. at Boulevard Nurseries.

Bouchard said he had been assaulted by a group of males in the parking lot of the Atlantic Beach Club and he admitted that he punched a side view mirror out of anger, said police.   Police said he told them he was unaware that the vehicle did not belong to the males who assaulted him. 

Bouchard was charged with vandalism.

Heroin Drug Possession

John McMahon, 29, of 104 Casey St, Norwood, Mass. was arrested on Saturday morning around 3:30 a.m. after a witness called police with the complaint that a man was passed out with a needle sticking out of his arm at the Comfort Inn on Aquidneck Ave. When police responded, they said McMahon was passed out, smelled heavily of alcohol and had a needle stuck in his arm.  Police reportedly found a plastic baggie containing heroin on McMahon. 

He was arrested with on a felony drug possession charge.


Assault

Joseph Bickerstaffe, 28, of 46 Cayuga Ave., Mashpee, Mass. was arrested on Sunday around 1:45 a.m. on simple assault.  Bickerstaffe allegedly punched a 28 year old Sommerville Man in the face in front of Tickets Bar on Aquidneck Avenue.
