Middletown Arrests: Police Recover Drugs, Gun After Stakeout at Local Inn

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department reports. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Police Stakeout

arrested several individuals last Friday, April 13, after monitoring the Bay Willows Inn, where they were believed to be located. Police were waiting for 20-year-old David Dion, of Middletown, who was wanted by Newport Police and was allegedly in possession of a handgun. Andre Dupree, 21, of 117 Lake Erie St. in Middletown was also wanted by Newport Police in connection to a stabbing incident  and was believed to be in the room with Dion. Police reported they confirmed the room was rented to 29-year-old Kristen Maghuyop of 1225 Aquidneck Ave.

Police said they watched Maghuyop leave the Inn in a black Chevrolet Malibu with a male passenger and travel south on Aquidneck Avenue, at which point the vehicle was stopped by police.

Police reported they smelled a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle. The passenger was identified as Dupree, and when he was asked to step out of the car, a small bag of marijuana allegedly fell out of his pocket. Police arrested Dupree on a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge and put him in the back of the cruiser.

Police reported they also found a larger amount of marijuana in a plastic bag under the passenger seat and a small bag of marijuana in the driver side footwell.

Dupree reportedly told police he wasn’t sure where the gun was back at the inn, but that it was a "chrome" and wrapped in a red bandana. Maghuyop agreed to a room search. She then provided police the key and was told to go to the Middletown Police Department and wait for the search to be completed.

Police reportedly approached the room with their patrol rifles and a shotgun. Once in the room, the individuals inside were handcuffed and searched. Dion was identified and placed in the rear of the cruiser.

Police reported they found substantial amounts of marijauana, a scale, plastic baggies and a Raven .25 caliber handgun in the room. Back at the station, Maghuyop was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to deliver, a felony. Dion was turned over to the Newport Police Department.

The other individuals in the room were not charged and released from the scene.

Driving Under the Influence

Rebecca Hogan, 33, of 36 Whitewell Ave, Newport, was arrested on Sunday, April 15, around 1:09 a.m. on a driving under the influence charge. Police pulled Hogan over after she turned onto Aquidneck Ave., and allegedly crossed over the fog lines and almost drove off the roadway.

Police said when Hogan was stopped she said that she was tired and just wanted to go home.  She allegedly admitted to drinking while at work. After failing the field sobriety tests, police brought her into custody.
