Middletown Arrests: Two DUI Arrests this Week, One Repeat Offender

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Theodore Amado, 46, of 41 Donna Dr., Portsmouth was arrested on Tuesday, July 3 at 2:06 p.m. on a second offense felony DUI charge.  Police said they pursued Amado on Coddingtown Hwy. because he was driving erratically and speeding.

According to the police report, Amado refused to stop, despite the officer’s use of siren and horn, until he continued over the Newport town line. The officer said he smelled alcohol on Amado’s breath and when asked if he had anything to drink, Amado responded that he had four or five drinks.   Police reported there was an empty bottle of alcohol on the passenger seat.

Amado failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.  He was also cited for a refusal to submit to a chemical test and two traffic violations.

Melissa Morett, 39, of 27 Thayer Ave. was arrested on Wednesday, July 4 around 1:14 a.m. on charges on a first offense DUI charge. Police stopped Morett after they clocked her traveling on Valley Road at 51 mph in a posted 35 mph zone and said she was swerving across the travel lanes.

Morett told Police she had two drinks at a friend’s house in Newport and was traveling back home to Massachusetts. After she failed the sobriety tests, she was placed in the cruiser.

Police reported she became distraught and began to yell and curse at the officer that she was not a criminal.  She allegedly told the officer he should be arresting “bad people, criminals and [explicative] drug dealers.”

Police said she was argumentative and agitated during processing so she was placed in a cell to be processed at a later time.  Once in the cell, she allegedly kicked the door and screamed for approximately a half an hour before she calmed down.

She was processed at around 6:00 a.m. without incident.  Morrett was also cited with a speeding ticket and two other roadway violations.
