Middletown Arrests: Weapons, DUI, Drugs and Disorderly Conduct

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction

Man Arrested on Drug and DUI Charges After Driver Called Police

Keith Rose, of 66 Girard Ave., Newport was arrested on Monday evening around 7:46  after a driver called police because he was reportedly driving erratically on West Main Road.

Police said when they pulled up behind his car, Rose sat through a green light on the intersection of Coddington Highway and West Main Road; when it turned red, his car rolled backwards and nearly struck the police cruiser.  After Rose swerved across the road, police stopped him at Coddington Highway and Lexington Street.

Police said Rose immediately apologized and admitted to having “a few beers” in Somerset, Mass.  He promised to be close to home and would not swerve for the rest of the trip, said police.

During the field sobriety test, Rose allegedly threw his arms in the air and said the test was “ridiculous.”  He failed the tests and was placed under arrest.

A search of the car turned up a bottle of vodka and pills later identified as Xanax, said police.  He was charged with possession of drugs, a felony, and for driving under the influence. He was was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test, several motor vehicle violations as well as driving while in possession of a controlled substance.

Domestic Assault and Disorderly Conduct

Michael Richard, 45, of 432 Wolcott Ave., was arrested on Saturday around 1:45 a.m. on charges of disorderly conduct and domestic assault.  His wife alleged they had a verbal argument earlier that day and she had left the house with her 18 year-old daughter.

Later that day, the daughter reportedly volunteered to go back to the house to gather a few things for her mother. Richard began yelling and questing her mother’s whereabouts, said police.   Richard said her mother could get her own things and grabbed the 18 year-old girl’s arm to attempt to throw her out of the bedroom, said police.

Richard’s 9 year-old daughter was at the house during the incident.  Police said Richard was not cooperative and threatened to sue the officers on scene.
