Middletown Fire Department Assists with Fire in Portsmouth Friday Night [VIDEO]

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m.

crews fought a garage fire on Mintwater Brook Lane in Portsmouth Friday night.

Firefighters from Middletown and Bristol assisted at the scene while Tiverton firefighters covered the Portsmouth Fire Station.

The call reportedly came in after 6 p.m. According to Fire Chief Jeffrey Lynch, the initial report was of a truck fire near a building.

When the first fire crews arrived, Lynch says they found a fire in a dumpster that had extended to a single-story ranch home with a detached garage.

Crews attacked the fire and were able to knock it down and stop it from spreading further. Lynch said no one appeared to be living in the home at the time.

Dawn Pheliaro, who lives in the house next door, said she was home with her two children and that her husband had just arrived home in that truck. Within 10 minutes of his arrival, she said they thought they saw fog passing by, but that one of the children said "daddy's truck is on fire."

National Grid is currently on the scene. Electrical wires may have been involved, although that hasn't been confirmed at this time.
