Middletown Fire Department Puts Out Truck Fire

A pickup truck caught fire Sunday afternoon on Wood Terrace.

A pickup truck that caught fire on Wood Terrace late Sunday afternoon was quickly extinguished with no injuries reported, Middletown Fire Department officials reported.

The Middletown Fire Department's Engine 1 and Engine 37 responded to an emergency call around 4 p.m. Sunday and found the small red pickup truck on fire. According to Fire Department officials, the truck's owner told them he had recently been driving it when the engine started running rough and flames erupted.

At the time, the truck was parked in the owner's driveway near the garage and two other vehicles, so the owner quickly moved the truck out of the driveway and left it across the street away from all structures in hopes of keeping the fire from spreading to the house or cars, fire officials reported.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had spread from the engine to the passenger compartment. Firefighters extinguished the fire and were on scene for about 45 minutes.

Middletown Fire Marshal Adam Westman determined the fire to be accidental, likely due to a malfunction of the fuel system inside the engine compartment.
