Middletown Joins Tiverton Fire Crews in Battling Home Fire

Multiple neighboring fire departments were also on the scene early Friday afternoon.

are battling a fire right now at a home at 58 Crest Road. Portsmouth, Westport, Swansea, Middletown, Little Compton, Bristol and Warren fire departments are also on the scene.

The fire reportedly started around 11 a.m. Tiverton Emergency Management Deputy Director Fred Almeida said the fire started outside the home then "went up the wall to the attic pretty fast."

Dark gray smoke is currently billowing from the roof, but no flames are visible from the street.

Laurie Haywood, who lives in the house, was home at the time, but was uninjured.

"I think it was the boiler," she said. "I heard a noise and just saw flames on the side. Everyone got out and is safe."

A Tiverton firefighter was reportedly taken to the hospital by a Swansea ambulance, but the reason is unknown at this time.

Crest Road backs up to Crandall Road, and traffic may be backed up in that area.
