As police arrived, Filkins emerged from the victim's home - reportedly with blood on his hands and clothes. He denied assaulting the victim, instead telling police that the victim's injuries occurred because he fell down.

After speaking with witnesses and observing the victims injuries, police arrested Filkins on assault and breaking and entering charges. During a search of his person, police found an illegal four-inch blade and one and a half hydrocodone pills.
