Middletown Police Arrest Driver After Brushing Snow Bank

The Middletown Police Department reported two arrests during the long holiday weekend between Saturday, Jan. 15, and Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.

The reported two drunk driving-related arrests during the long holiday weekend between Saturday, Jan. 15, and Monday, Jan. 17. The following information was obtained solely from public arrest records:

  • Police arrested Bryan Cabral, 22, of 14 Point Road, Portsmouth, Saturday around 2:25 a.m. on a misdemeanor first offense charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the arrest record, police observed the 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse he was driving on West Main Road cut the corner during a turn and drive into the eastbound lane and then “brush the snow bank” on the right side of the road. Police pulled his car over near the intersection of Maple Avenue. Upon questioning, police reportedly detected the smell of alcohol and “severely bloodshot” eyes and slurred speech. After conducting a field sobriety test, Cabral allegedly refused to submit to a preliminary blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) breath test and he was officially charged with drunk driving. Cabral was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical BAC test later at the police station, refusal to submit to the preliminary breath BAC test, and for a “manner of turning” moving violation.
  • William Thomas Dennett, 47, of 9049 Otto Apt. East, Cattarougus, NY, was arrested Saturday on a first offense misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Around 2:38 a.m. on Saturday, Middletown police stopped the 2011 silver Jeep he was driving on Lighthouse View Road after observing it swerving on the road at about 40 miles per hour. Police at the scene reportedly observed bloodshot eyes and detected the smell of alcohol. Police arrested him after completing a field sobriety test at the scene. He was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test to measure blood-alcohol concentration (BAC), as well as moving vehicle violations for allegedly swerving outside the lane markers on the road and for speeding.
