Police said he was stopped because he went through a stop sign at the intersection of Harbor View Court and Maple Avenue and then crossed over the lane divider. Abdus-Salaam continued driving despite the police sirens and made a left on Hillside Avenue into Newport. When he eventually pulled over, police said there were six people inside, empty beer cans, an open beer and a folding knife. Abdus-Salaam failed the sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
