Middletown Police Log: 8 Arrests Over the Weekend

The following allegations are based on Middletown Police Department reports. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

The reported the following arrests over the weekend:

Breaking and Entering

  • Donovan Donyel Jones, 19, of 132 Rogers Lane, Middletown, was arrested on a felony charge of breaking and entering around 12:07 a.m. early Sunday. According to the arrest report, a resident in the 100 block on Rogers Lane alleged that Jones had kicked in the front door earlier that evening and that when she went downstairs, they exchanged heated words stemming from a previous dispute involving missing money. Police at the scene photographed a damaged door and observed handprints on the door. Jones later that night turned himself in at the Middletown Police Station, according to the police report.

Simple Assault

  • Jacob Canale, 20, of 1120 Lemoyne AVE., Syracuse, NY, was arrested around 6 p.m. Saturday evening on a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. He was also cited for underage possession or consumption of alcohol. According to the police report, Middletown police officers responded to the Newport Beach Inn and Suites for reports of an intoxicated individual and found Canale vomiting repeatedly outside on the grass. When an officer attempted to get his information, Canale allegedly refused to provide his personal information, swore, lied about having a gun on him and kicked the police officer in the shin. Canale was transported to Newport Hospital due to his intoxication level, according to police.

Marijuana Charges

  • Beulah M. Earle, 37, of 16 N. Dudley Ave., Middletown, was arrested on a misdemeanor first offense charge of marijuana possession around 12:45 a.m. According to the arrest report, police initially responded to the residence to investigate a domestic dispute and, upon arrival, detected the smell of marijuana. Earle allegedly led police to find the bag of marijuana and two pipes recovered from the basement.
  • Sidney Brito, 41, of 79 Cotter St., East Providence, was arrested around 7:20 p.m. Saturday on a charge of marijuana possession. According to a report, police stopped the car he was driving near the intersection of Maplewood and West Main roads for allegedly speeding at 50 mph in a posted 25-mph zone. During questioning, police detected the smell of marijuana and Brito allegedly turned over to police three marijuana cigarettes and bag of marijuana from his car.
  • Thomas R. Beaulieu, 24, of 1 Zambarano Ave., North Providence, was arrested on a misdemeanor first offense charge of marijuana possession around 8:52 p.m. Saturday evening. According to the arrest report, police stopped the car he was driving on West Main Road near Green Lane. During questioning, the officer observed marijuana residue inside the car and a background check showed that Beaulieu’s license had been suspended. A search of the car allegedly turned up a clear bag of marijuana, glass pipe, and cigar joint from inside the center console. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license and for speeding.

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

  • Jeffrey M. Sheehan, 34, of 56 Admiral Kalfbus Road, Newport, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a first offense misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, police observed the SUV he was driving make several multiple-point turns in a jerking, erratic manner and then park at the end of Bristol Road, where several pieces of construction equipment were known to be parked. The officer who went to investigate the parked car reported finding Sheehan crouched down behind construction equipment before yelling, “You don’t have me” and “Calm down, I’m not driving.” During questioning, police detected the smell of alcohol and observed bloodshot, glossy eyes and slurred speech. Sheehan at first denied owning the car, then allegedly admitted to owning the car and being drunk, police reported. Sheehan was arrested after allegedly refusing to take a field sobriety test at the scene. At Sheehan’s request, police took him to Newport Hospital to conduct a blood test and to check his wrists for pain that he complained resulted from the handcuffs. Sheehan also was cited for having an open alcohol container while driving.
  • Michael P. Hebert Jr., 21, of 14 Jameson St., Fairhaven, MA, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor first offense, around 1:51 a.m. Saturday. Hebert also was cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test to measure blood-alcohol content. According to the police report, Hebert’s car was observed crossing the yellow line on West Main Road while allegedly speeding at 50 mph in a posted 25-mph zone. Police stopped his car near the intersection of Miantonomi Avenue. During questioning, police detected the odor of alcohol and observed bloodshot, glossy eyes. Hebert was arrested after a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene.  Hebert also was cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test to measure his blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) and for driving outside the roadway lanes.

Domestic Assault

  • Jason Robert Green, 33, of 16 N. Dudley Ave., Middletown, was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday morning on a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault. According to the police report, a 37-year-old Middletown resident had alleged that Green had thrown a beverage at her after she returned home after going out in Newport earlier in the evening. The woman told police that he was angry she had been out drinking.
