Middletown Police Log: Arrests For Drugs, Assaults, Shoplifting

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

Mark Terrel Gonsalves, 20, of 20 Bloom Court, Middletown, was arrested at approximately 3 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 11, on charges of marijuana possession and drinking under the influence. According to the police report, an officer obtained a radar reading of  Gonsalves driving 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on East Main Road, near McDonald’s. The officer noticed a smell of alcohol and burnt marijuana when he stopped the driver, according to the report. Gonsalves allegedly lost his balance during field sobriety tests, and refused to take a chemical test at the police station; during an inventory of his car, police found marijuana.

Speeding leads to marijuana arrest

Katie Lynn Chuckran, 25, of 2 Youngs Lane, Raynham, MA, was arrested at 2 a.m., Saturday, Dec 10, on a charge of marijuana possession. According to the report, a police officer stopped her car near the intersection of West Main Road and Oliphant, after obtaining a radar reading of 48 mph in a 30 mph zone. The officer allegedly noted the smell of marijuana, and Chuckran admitted having marijuana in her purse; rolling papers, a grinder, and glass pipe were also found in her car, according to the report.

Cleaning supplies were stolen

Jason Murphy, 39, of 115 Swindelis Street, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec 9, on a shoplifting charge related to an incident on Nov. 26, at the Stop and Shop on West Main Road. According to the police report, Murphy was identified from video surveillance, which had shown him leaving the store with 6 bottles of bleach and 2 six-packs of paper towels without paying. Video surveillance also showed him allegedly entering a vehicle, and an accomplice allegedly leaving the vehicle shortly after with the paper towels and taking the paper towels into the store to get a refund.

Driver’s familiar face leads to marijuana arrest

Kevin Schiavone, 38, of 86 Cedar Avenue, Portsmouth, was arrested at approximately 10:30 p.m, Thursday, Dec. 8, for marijuana possession and driving without a license. According to the police report, officers recognized the driver of a car on West Main Road from a cross agency photo, and stopped the vehicle, noting two open beers in the car. A routine check of the driver’s license showed it was suspended; the driver also allegedly told officers there was marijuana in the car, which the officers found.

Disorderly conduct leads to assault charges

Brian K. Lafleur, 32, of 1776 West Main Rd., Middletown, was arrested at approximately 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, on a charge of disorderly conduct and for two charges of assault for allegedly injuring two police officers during the arrest for disorderly conduct. According to the police report, officers were dispatched to West Main Road north of Squantum Drive after receiving a 911 about a man, subsequently identified as Lafleur, stumbling in the roadway.

  • Jose A. Taveras, 22, of 90 Woodbine St., Cranston, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 8, at 9:45 a.m, on a marijuana possession, after his car was stopped because it was missing its front registration plate, according to the police report.
  • Daryl L. Overy, 27, of 24 Robin Drive, Bristol, was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, on a shoplifting charge after allegedly stealing eight video games from Best Buy on West Main Road.
  • Jaimee Lynn Suk, 31, of 17 Belvedere Drive, Bristol, was arrested at approximately 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec 7, for allegedly writing two bad checks totaling $180.57 in June 2011 at B.J.’s Wholesale Club on East Main Road.
  • Stephen Michael Mitchell, 49, of 447 Turner Road, Middletown, was arrested at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, on a charge of assault on a 44-year-old Middletown man.
  • Kimberly Dawn Reid, 29, of 6 Cranston Street, Newport, was arrested at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Dec 5, on a charge of writing fraudulent checks.
  • Zachary T. Kennedy, 19, of 74 Flanagan Road, Portsmouth, was arrested at approximately 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, on a charge of disorderly conduct.
  • Courtney Vierra, 20, of 19A Woolsey Road, Middletown, RI, was arrested at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, on a charge of assault.
