Middletown Police Log: 3 Arrests for Drunk Driving and Assault; 5 Busted With Pot

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department records and does not indicate any convictions.

Michael Vieira, 24, of 91 School St., Apt. B, Everett, MA, was arrested around 3:17 p.m. Sunday afternoon on misdemeanor charges of domestic simple assault and vandalism.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to a report of an injured woman in the bathroom at the Atlantic Beach Club. Upon arrival police found a 21-year-old woman from Everett, MA, with a small laceration on the back of her head. The woman would not provide a statement to police but witnesses told police that Vieira pulled her hair during an argument and that Vieira threw a cell phone at the back of her head.

During questioning, Vieira allegedly told police that he was “drunk enough to hurt my fiancé.” He was also charged with disorderly conduct and vandalism after repeatedly banging his head against the police car trunk and causing dents during his arrest and pat down search, police reported. A background check also revealed that Vieira was in the United States illegally and he was detained for federal immigration authorities.

Drunk Driving

Camden Quint, 30, of 33 Williams St., Rehoboth, MA, was arrested around 1:10 a.m. early Sunday morning on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a misdemeanor first offense.

According to the arrest report, a patrol officer stopped his car on the 900 block of West Main Road after other motorists reported an erratic driver and police observed his car swerving. Police observed an open bottle of beer in the car’s console and bloodshot eyes and detected the smell of alcohol. He was charged after a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene.

A chemical test to measure his blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) at the police station allegedly measured .109 and .111. He was also cited for failing to drive within the landed roadway.

Drunk Driving

Nancy J. Cotta, 41, of 91 Pear St., Portsmouth, was arrested around 3:50 a.m. early Saturday morning on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the arrest report, police observed her car speeding on West main Road near Beacon Street in a posted 25-mph zone and later observed her car swerving. During questioning, police observed bloodshot eyes and detected the smell of alcohol.

She was charged after a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test to measure her BAC at the police station and for failing to drive within the landed roadway.

Marijuana Charges

  • Timothy Michael Kinsella, 45, of 11 Holmer St., Newport, was arrested around 8:11 p.m. Sunday night on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. According to the arrest report, police responded to a report of a domestic argument on Bliss Mine Road. During a pat down at the scene, a police officer recovered a pipe from the suspect’s pocket and small plastic bag with marijuana.
  • Kyle James Pires, 26, of 37 Hayes St., Acushnet, MA, was arrested around 6:46 p.m. Saturday evening on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. According to the arrest report, police initially pulled Pires over for speeding at 50 mph in a posted 35-mph zone. After detecting the smell of marijuana in the car and questioning Pires, an officer allegedly found a roach and container with marijuana in the car. Pires was also cited for speeding.
  • Matthew Morales, 19, of 58 Halsey St., Newport, was arrested around 2:10 a.m. early Sunday morning on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. According to the arrest report, police on patrol on Sachuest Point Road observed a group of cars parked in the lot near Big Rock. Due to the late hour and lot closure, police questioned the group of people there. A police officer who detected the smell of grape knew that a grape cigar wrap is commonly used to roll marijuana cigarettes. During questioning, Morales allegedly produced a marijuana cigar, bag of marijuana and two marijuana pipes.
  • Elias DeSouza, 20, of 27 William Sisson Road, Little Compton, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. Saturday on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. According to the arrest report, police stopped his truck on the 600 block of East Main Road after clocking his car’s speed at 47 mph in a posted 35-mph zone. After detecting the smell of marijuana, an officer allegedly found a plastic bag with marijuana and two smoking pipes. DeSouza was also cited for speeding. Zane Allen, 19, of 432 Long Highway, Little Compton, a passenger in the car, was also arrested for the misemeanor marijuana charge.
