Middletown Police Log: Drunk Driving, Check Fraud, and No-Contact Violation

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

Drunk Driving Charge in Wee Hours

Patrick Cottrell, 22, of 635 Thames St., Newport, was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police noticed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner traveling from West Main Road to Wendy’s Hamburger Restaurant on Valley Road. Police determined the vehicle’s registration was expired, and they approached the vehicle in the restaurant parking lot; at that point, they noticed the smell of alcohol on the breath of the driver, Patrick Cottrell, and they conducted field sobriety tests, during which Cottrell swayed and nearly fell several times. Cottrell agreed to a chemical test at the police station and his blood alcohol level was registered as 0.124. He was processed without incident.

Jose M. Marte, 41, of 900 Atwells Ave., Providence, was arrested at approximately 11:45 p.m. Monday for writing a fraudulent check, which was reported by B.J.’s Wholesale Club in Middletown. Marte had been picked up by Newport Police, and was transported to the Middletown Police and processed without incident.

No-Contact Order Violation

Junior S. Medina, 23, of 90 Girard Ave., Newport, was arrested at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday for violating a no-contact order against a 20-year-old Middletown resident. Police stopped a Medina’s vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed near West Main Road and Oliphant Lane, and upon running Medina’s license information, it was discovered that he had a no-contact order for the passenger in the car.  Medina was processed without incident.

Three Bench Warrant Arrests

Antonio Carson, 20, of 132A Lake Erie St., Middletown, walked into the police station at approximately 7:15 p.m. last Friday and turned himself in for an active warrant. He was processed without incident.

Anthony L. Butler, 37, of 2 Admiralty Dr., Middletown, was arrested Monday at approximately 11:45 p.m. for two bench warrants. Acting on an anonymous tip, police found Butler at the apartment of a friend. He was processed without incident.

Cynthia Denise McHale, 28, of 885 Middleridge Rd., South Kingstown, was arrested Tuesday at approximately 1:00 a.m., for two bench warrants. McHale was driving a vehicle on West Main Road shortly after midnight when a police officer’s routine registration check of the car’s license plates revealed an expired registration. After pulling over McHale, the officer discovered her driver’s license had also expired and she had two active warrants. She was processed without incident.
