Middletown Police Log: DUI Arrest After Reckless Driving and Crash

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

Brent J. McIntyre, 32, of 67 Ware Rd., West Brookfield, MA, was arrested at approximately 11:30 p.m., Wed., Dec. 21, on a third offense for driving under the influence, and for cocaine possession (both felonies), and three misdemeanors—reckless driving, obstructing officers, and resisting arrest. A passenger in the car, Melanie E. Hawkins, 25, of 67 Lawton Ave., N. Kingstown, was arrested for obstructing officers.

According to the police report, police pursued a white pickup truck that had been reported for reckless driving, following it into the Middletown High School parking lot, where the driver of the pickup truck allegedly evaded two police cars by driving several laps around the high school building, driving across the athletic fields, exiting the parking lot, running a red light at the intersection of Valley and East Main Roads, and accelerating to 55 m.p.h. as it approached West Main Rd., where it went through the fence at Harbor Village and struck the guide wires of a utility pole. The driver, Brent McIntyre, allegedly fled from the vehicle and was chased by officers until apprehended. Officers allegedly noticed a strong odor of alcohol from his breath and a white powdery substance near his nostrils; they allegedly found a white powdery substance in a container in his pants pockets. The passenger, Melanie Hawkins, remained in the pickup truck after it crashed, and ignored several instructions by officers to exit the vehicle.

Krystal Fortin, 22, of 160 Worcester Ave., Riverside, was arrested at approximately 3 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, on a charge of marijuana possession. According to the police report, the police officer detected the smell of marijuana after stopping Fortin’s car for a traffic offense. Fortin allegedly told the officer she had been smoking marijuana earlier that evening. A pipe, grinder, and bag of marijuana were allegedly found in her car.

Rebecca Lynn Gould, 21, of 67 Old Stone Church Rd., Little Compton, was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, for driving under the influence.  According to the police report, Gould’s car was stopped after an officer observed it drifting across lanes on West Main Road. The officer allegedly smelled alcohol when speaking to Gould, and during a field sobriety test Gould allegedly was unable to complete the walk and turn or the one-leg stand due to poor balance.

Arrest for assault in Middletown home

Thaddeus Albert Szalno, 31, of 35 Anthony Rd., Weymouth, MA, was arrested at approximately 12:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 26, for assault. According to the police report, officers were dispatched to a Middletown home where a fight had occurred. Officers allegedly found a 36-year-old Middletown man with lacerations on his forehead and nose, which he received as a result of Szalno allegedly throwing him across the kitchen. Szalno allegedly told an officer that he was upset because there was a party going on in the home while a nine-month-old child was sleeping.

DUI and marijuana arrests in same car

Wendall J. Palmer, 33, of 180 Allston Ave., Middletown, was arrested at 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 24, for driving under the influence. In the same incident, Joseph Elam, 21, of 14035 Crestwick Dr. W., Jacksonville, FL, was arrested for marijuana possession. According to the police report, an officer stopped Palmer’s car for a traffic offense and noticed the smell of alcohol from Palmer, as well as the smell of marijuana in the vehicle. The officer conducted a field sobriety test, which Palmer allegedly could not complete because of poor balance. An officer allegedly found marijuana and related paraphernalia on the passenger side of the vehicle, where Elam had been seated.

In other arrests:

  • Robin L. Landrum, 58, of no permanent address, was arrested at approximately 2:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 26, for disorderly conduct for allegedly soliciting money from vehicles at the corner of Coddington Highway and West Main Road.
  • Miguel Camacho, 21, of 99 Beacon Ave., Providence, was arrested at approximately 4 a.m., Monday, Dec. 26, for an active bench warrant.
  • Eric V. Oest, 40, of 109 Oak Forest Dr., Middletown, was arrested at approximately 9:30 a.m., Wed., Dec. 21, for disorderly conduct stemming from an incident on Dec. 14 when he allegedly exited his own vehicle in the drive-thru lane of the McDonalds located at 1492 West Main Rd., and threatened an unknown woman in another vehicle.
  • Carlyle Dean Rucker, 44, of 2 Maple Terrace, Middletown, was arrested at approximately 6 p.m., Wed., Dec. 21, for marijuana possession.
  • Brian Michael Walker, 39, of 1357 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, was arrested at approximately 2 a.m., Wed., Dec. 21, for driving under the influence.
  • Anthony Robert Hendricksen, 24, of 20 Middleton Ave., Newport, was arrested at approximately 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, for assault.
