Middletown Police Log: Newport Man Arrested for Alleged Cocaine Possession

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

Jason David Thompson, 33, of 23 Calvert St., Newport, was arrested at approximately noon, Saturday, Jan. 28, for three felony counts of drug possession, and two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and vandalism. According to the police report, officers responded to a report of an argument at an inn on Aquidneck Avenue.

The officers found Thompson allegedly threatening another party, told him he was under arrest for disorderly conduct, and escorted him to a police car. Thompson allegedly asked the officers to get his wallet from the other party and bring it to him; he also allegedly asked the officers to check how much money was in the wallet. When officers checked the wallet, they reportedly found small bags of cocaine and prescription pills.

Candice Marie Johnson, 39, of 31 West Main Rd., Middletown, was arrested at approximately 12:30 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 29, for assault. According to the police report, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at an inn, and upon arriving spoke to an individual whom Johnson had allegedly scratched. When the officers spoke directly to Johnson, she reportedly told police she had fallen during an argument with the individual and her arms had moved frantically, which scratched the other party’s stomach.

Ashley Davis, 22, of 14 Bayview Park, Middletown, was arrested at approximately 8:45 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, for violating a no-contact order against a 52-year-old Middletown woman.

Assault charge

Ty Terome Chapman, 29, of 39 King Rd., Middletown, was arrested at 11:15 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, on an assault charge. According to the police report, Chapman allegedly called dispatch himself to report he had gotten into an altercation. The officers reportedly spoke to the injured party, who refused medical help. Chapman reportedly told officers that an argument had become physical.

Woman allegedly assaults Middletown woman

Michele A. Camara, 35, of 9 Spinnaker Ct., Middletown, was arrested at approximately 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, for assault. According to the report, Camara allegedly assaulted a 52-year-old Middletown woman during an argument.

Arrestee allegedly violates restraining order

Richard Edward Hart, 57, of 170 Prospect Ave., Middletown, was arrested at approximately 3:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, for violating domestic protective orders. According to the police report, officers responded to a call from an individual, and found Hart in an apartment on property from which he is restrained.

Speeding leads to marijuana arrest

Craig J. Rebello, 25, of 32 Eric Rd., N. Dartmouth, MA, was arrested at approximately 10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, for possession of marijuana. According to the police report, an officer stopped a vehicle in which Rebello was a passenger for speeding. The officer reportedly smelled burnt marijuana, and found marijuana in the car. Rebello reportedly told officers the marijuana belonged to him.

Three arrests for bench warrants

  • A 17-year-old Middletown girl was arrested at approximately 11:45 p.m. for an active bench warrant, which was discovered during a traffic stop.
  • Lawrence Peter Rowland, Jr., 34, of 120 Malbone Rd., Newport, was arrested at approximately 11:45 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, for a bench warrant. According to the police report, Rowland was a passenger in a car that was stopped by police for running a red light on West Main Rd. When officers checked documents, the warrant was discovered.
  • Cesar Gomez, 40, of 42 Ambrose St., North Providence, was arrested at approximately 11 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, for an active bench warrant and driving without a license. According to the police report, an officer observed Gomez switch lanes abruptly and without a turn signal. When the officer stopped Gomez, the expired license and bench warrant were discovered.
