Middletown Police Log: One Drug, Two DUI Arrests Reported

Possession of Controlled Substance

Cody Richard Williams, 20, of 39 Thurston Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested around 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and on a misdemeanor arrest warrant. According to the police report, police were investigating a car parked in the lot at Purgatory Chasm during restricted hours. Williams informed the police officer that he and his female companion were just hanging out. A background check of Williams showed that he had an outstanding arrest warrant issued from the Second District Court in Newport for failure to appear for a scheduled court date. Upon his arrest, he was searched and police allegedly recovered four Adoral pills in a cigarette box on him without a prescription.

Driving Under the Influence, Expired License

Jospeh M. Quinn, 34, of 16 Clearview, Portsmouth, was arrested around 1:51 a.m. Saturday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor first offense. According to the arrest report, police stopped the car he was driving on East Main Road near Island Drive after observing his car allegedly travelling in the opposite lane and then striking the curb several times. During questioning, police detected the odor of alcohol on his breath and observed bloodshot eyes. Quinn told police that he was returning from a bar in Newport and had “a few beers and some shots.” Quinn was arrested after a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene. At the police station, a chemical test to measure blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) allegedly registered .199 and .196. He was also cited for driving without a license and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

Driving Under the Influence

Matthew William Reynolds, 30, of 18 Beachview Terrace, Middletown, was arrested around 2:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor second offense. He was also cited for allegedly refusing to submit to a chemical test to measure blood-alcohol concentration (BAC).

According to the police report, police stopped the car he was driving on Jepson Lane near the Portsmouth town line after clocking his car allegedly travelling at 43 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. During questioning, police detected the odor of alcohol and observed bloodshot eyes. Reynolds was arrested after a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene.
