Middletown Police Log: Speeding Leads to DUI Arrest

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

Virginia A. Danaher, 32, of 969 West Main Road, Middletown, was arrested at approximately 2 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16, for driving under the influence. According to the police report, an officer observed Danaher’s car traveling at 50 mph in a 25 mph area of  West Main Road, passing another car on the right, and traveling in the center of both northbound lanes. Upon stopping the car, the officer reportedly smelled alcohol on Danaher’s breath, and performed field sobriety tests. Danaher allegedly had trouble maintaining her balance during both the walk-and-turn and the one-leg-stand tests, and was transported to the . She refused a chemical test, and received citations for refusal to a chemical test, and speeding at more than 25 mph over the speed limit, in addition to the DUI arrest.

Marijuana Found in Car Stopped for Speeding

Patrick R. Charland, 20, of Ochre Lodge, Newport, was arrested at approximately 10 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, for possession of marijuana. According to the police report, an officer observed a car speeding on Aquidneck Avenue, and noted the smell of marijuana when he stopped the car and spoke to the driver and passengers. The officer found a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe that Charland, a passenger in the car, reportedly said were his. Charland was transported to the Middletown Police station. The contents of the bag reportedly field-tested positive as marijuana.
